The ACU-FLAP Check Element prevents backflow and flooding in CSO, SSO, and overflow systems. It offers a reliable, airtight design with minimal hydraulic resistance and easy installation in both new and existing structures.
The ACU-FLAP Check Element is designed to prevent backflow and flooding caused by high downstream water levels. Used in CSO, SSO, and overflow systems, it helps avoid the overloading of sewer systems and treatment plants while reducing energy costs for wastewater treatment. The ACU-FLAP also controls odors by remaining closed during normal conditions.
The ACU-FLAP Check Element uses an elastomer flap mounted on a rectangular concrete opening. In its resting position, the flap hangs vertically, sealing the opening and preventing backflow. When the water level in the sewer or reservoir rises, hydrostatic pressure causes the flap to open, allowing water to flow over the weir. If the downstream water level rises, the flap seals tightly against the concrete opening, preventing backflow. The system responds quickly to small changes in water level while maintaining structural stability under high downstream pressures.
The ACU-FLAP is designed with an integrated stainless steel frame for anchoring to concrete, ensuring a watertight seal and preventing issues caused by uneven concrete surfaces. It can also be fitted with a stainless steel plate for added rigidity, improving odor control and adapting to higher return water conditions.
